Statement on HB 1228
Wright Lindsey Jennings announced today that the firm opposes House Bill 1228, known as the “Religious Freedom Bill,” as it is currently drafted. The firm applauds Governor Hutchinson’s leadership in asking that the bill be recalled and amended.
The firm, deeply rooted in the state for over 115 years, has promoted diversity and equality both in the practice of law and in the communities it serves. As proud Arkansans, we are firm in our conviction that the people of our state are welcoming and respectful of all persons. Unfortunately, we believe that HB 1228 does not reflect those values or the goals we should strive to achieve as citizens. Therefore, we respectfully urge the General Assembly to heed Governor Hutchinson’s call to amend this legislation.
